INSTRUCTIONSOn approximately (US) size 9 needles, Cast on 108 stitches.
Row 1: Knit all the way across
    Row 2: 3 border stitches, ( slip first stitch and knit the next 2), ( K2 together K6, YO, K1, YO, K6, K2 tog. twice, K6, YO, K1, YO, K6, K2 tog), repeat ( ) twice more, K 3 for border
    Row 3: Purl every stitch
Repeat these three rows until the length you want is achieved. Remember the blanket's length will increase once the blanket is blocked. You will keep the border stitches on every row, always slipping the first stitch each row.
A finer (possibly cashmere?) or heavier yarn, smaller or larger size blanket, by adjusting the number of the pattern repeats that are used. One pattern repeat contains 34 stitches.
Complete your personalized project by sewing on some sumptious satiny blanket binding.

Free Sunny Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern

Soft, sunny, and comfy -- this blanket is bound to be a hit with your baby.
Of course this blanket can be knit in any color you please, but bright yellow brings an extra spark of joy and light. A pretty textured pattern makes it even livelier. The more you wash this yarn, the softer it gets.

Yarn: Superwash DK weight wool, about 800 yards.
I worked my blanket in Knit Picks Swish Superwash Bare (undyed) Worsted Weight and used about 3.5 of the 220 yard/100 gram hanks.
Needles: Size 5 circular needles (or whatever size you want to get gauge).

    Blanket pattern:
    1. Cast on 160 stitches.
(If you want to alter the border, cast on for the width of your borders plus the 148 stitch width of the cable chart. In my case I worked borders six stitches wide, so I would add 12 (6 for each border, two borders total) to 148, the width of the cable chart, to get 160 stitches total.)
    2. Work 10 rows in seed stitch for the bottom border. Seed stitch is made as follows: Row 1: K1, P1 (repeat), Row 2: P1, K1 (repeat)]
(I worked 10 rows, you should do whatever you’ve decided based on your swatch.)
    3. Begin working chart 1 but keep your borders in seed stitch.
I suggest placing stitch markers at the beginning and end of the seed stitch border as well as in between each cable section and the three-stitch-wide reverse stockinette “gutter” between cables (marked in light blue) to help you remember where you are.
    4. Work the cable chart, rows 1-80 three times.
    5. On the fourth repeat, knit ONLY rows 1-56.
    6. Work 10 rows in seed stitch for the top border.
(If you altered the bottom border work the same number of rows you knit on the bottom border.
    7. Bind off. Be sure to block, as the cables will bloom dramatically with blockin

The blanket centre (without border) measures 31 1/2" square and required 350 grams of 8 ply (DK) wool @ approx 90m (100 yards) per 50gm. You will need extra yarn to work the border and edging, the amount depends on how large you want your finished blanket to be.

Tension: 9sts to 5cm over st st on 4.5mm needles. This gauge is after washing so work a largish swatch
and wash it first, or block the blanket to the required size after you've finished.
Abbreviations: inc = increase: knit into the front, then back, of the next st
    sl 1 = slip one
PSSO = pass slipped stitch over
    yon = yarn over needle
    k2tog = knit 2 together
Lace panels (work these where stated in the pattern).
Only count your sts after having worked a whole pattern repeat (ie: 10 rows)
Each pattern repeat is worked over 16 sts.
    Row 1: K1, *yon, K1, sl 1, K1, psso, P1, K2tog, K1, yon, P1, sl 1, K1, psso, P1, K2tog, yon, K1, yon, K1 *
    Row 2: P1, *P4, K1, P1, K1, P3, K1, P4*
    Row 3: K1, *yon, K1, sl 1, K1, psso, P1, K2tog, K1, P1, sl 1, K2tog, psso, yon, K3, yon, K1*
    Row 4: P1, *P6, K1, P2, K1, P4*
    Row 5: K1, *yon, K1, yon, sl 1, K1, psso, P1, K2tog, K2tog, yon, K5, yon, K1*
    Row 6: P1, *P7, K1, P1, K1, P5*
    Row 7: K1, *yon, K3, yon, sl 1, K2tog, psso, P1, yon, K1, sl 1, K1, psso P1, K2tog, K1, yon, K1*
    Row 8: P1, *P3, K1, P3, K1, P7*
    Row 9: K1, *yon, K5, yon, sl 1, K1, psso, K1, sl 1, K1, psso, P1, K2tog, K1, yon, K1*
    Row 10: P1, *P3, K1, P2, K1, P8*
Row 11: Rep from row 1
The blanket (as usual 2 versions follow): Cast on 166 sts.
Row 1: K15, *work row 1 of lace pattern, K14, rep from * to last st K1.
Row 2: P15, *work row 2 of lace pattern, P14, rep from * to end, P1
Continue in this manner until you have repeated the lace motif 22 times (220 rows).
    Cast off.
Border: Pick up 166 sts on each side and work in the round as follows:
Place a marker after each 166th st.
    Row 1: Purl
Row 2: Inc, knit to last st before marker, inc, repeat to end of round
Repeat these 2 rows until your blanket is the length and width desired.
Repeat row 1 once more. Cast off, working increase at corners.
You will need extra yarn if you wish to work a border.
Version 2: Cast on 166 sts
Work in lace pattern throughout (no st st panels). This blanket will not be as wide as the first version, but will be as long.
    Block.
