The Story so far....

      It's the year 2121 and life on earth is peaceful. Things are looking up
for Jake Blast'em, having just returned from a secret interstellar mission
Jake starts to plan his holiday that is until....

Boss : " Hello Jake are you there? "
Jake  : " Yeah "
Boss : " Sorry to trouble you so soon after
          your last heroic mission but... "
Jake  : " But what ? "
Boss : " We seem to have a situation. "
Jake  : " Situation? "
Boss : " Yes you better come down to HQ immediately!"
Jake  : " Not again!"

Jake makes his way to the secret HQ.

Boss : " You see Jake we have a problem, about 2 hours
          ago our radar picked up some strange activity
          directly above earth. "
Jake : " What kind of activity? "
Boss : " To be precise we don't know, but our lab guys
          tell us they think its a worm hole! "
Jake : " Do they know whats on the other side?"
Boss : " No but I have a feeling we will find out soon "
Alien : " Greets Earth Scum! I am Sextorix you may refer
          to me as.... Lord SEXTRORIX "
Jake  : " Who's he calling scum? "
Alien : " You have 24 of your earth hours to give us what
          we want"
Boss : " What do you want? "
Alien : " Everything!"
Boss : " There demands are ridiculous! Jake you must do
          something!"
Jake : " Here we go again...."

Jake Blasts off from the secret location to the alien mother ship.

In this version of Jake Blaster Episode 1 you must battle your way through
4 levels (the full version contains 15 levels! ) in order to escape from the
Divortan Mothership. You can only complete a level by finding the appropriate
Teleporter and pressing the up arrow key. You will also face several badguys
a description is listed below.

Zop! : These are the most common badguys in the
             game, and as a rule are generally slow
             moving. Jack can jump over them instead
             of wasting ammo.

Gooie : Pink, slow and made out of intergalactic
             jelly. That about sums up the Gooie.

Mini Bot : Mini Bots are small robots which are
             hard to shoot because of there size,
             these bots were built to clean rubbish
             from the Motherships floors.

Eye Guy : Their eye is used to transmit everything
             they see back to the Motherships command
             centre.

Phromp : Phromp's are generally harmless creatures
             their only drawback is they keep getting
             in your way.

Fly By Eye : There main aim is to prevent people
             getting past them. They do this by
             hovering either up and down or in
             a circle.

Bug - Ed : Because of their size the Bug - Ed are
             extremely difficult to shoot, so it's
             best to try and avoid them as much as
             possible.

Zobo Robo : The meanest robot around! Even when
             shot, these bots eject two metal sheets
             and therefor must be avoided at all cost.

There are also more than several bonuses on each level for Jake to collect
these include:

Standard Bonus

Lolly................ 100 points

Problem : The game runs very slow and the screen jerks!
Answer : This could be because of two issues,

         1) Jake Blastem relies mostly on memory under DOS. Jake Blastem
            requires over 550k of conventional memory to run and above 600k
            of conventional memory to run at a reasonable speed! The bad news
            is if you are running Jake Blastem under Windows 95/98 then your
            Pc may not be Setup for maximum memory. To solve this problem we
            recommend you Shutdown your Pc and Restart the computer in
            MS-DOS mode. This should give you the maximum amount of
            conventional memory.

         2) Because of the huge amount of sprites being displayed on the
            screen at any one time Jake Blastem requires more memory then say
            Super Roco Bros does. So it is almost unplayable on a 486 DX2/66
            processor. Jake Blastem needs a P166 processor to run smoothly.

Problem : When I stand on a lift I cant shoot!
Answer : This is NOT a bug! The lifts us a magnetic impulse which also jams
          Jake's ray gun. If you wish to shoot you must jump up and shoot at
          the same time.

Problem : The music plays distorted or not at all!
Answer : Please refer to section (7) Using the Sound Setup.

[ Windows 2000 / ME ]

Jake Blastem has NOT been tested on a Pc running on Windows 2000 or Windows ME
Therefor it is highly unlikely that this product will run at a satisfactory
level or worst comes to worst this product may NOT RUN AT ALL!

= (7) Using the Sound Setup                                                  =
==============================================================================

Music and Sound FX will Only play if your Sound card is 100% Sound Blaster or
Gravis Ultra Sound compatible. If your sound card is not compatible then the
only option is to play with NO SOUND. The Sound Setup Program has been made
to automatically detect your sound cards settings. But if it doesn't then try
one of the following...

[MS-DOS]

Problem : I do not know my settings but I do know my cards a Sound Blaster.
Answer : The general settings for a Sound Blaster would be,

        Select Card: Sound Blaster
        Port       : 0x200
        IRQ        : 5
        DMA1       : 1
        DMA2       : 5

        Run the setup program by typing "setup.exe" and select the options
        so that they match up with the options above. Once this is done click
        on the TEST button if no sound plays try changing the name of your
        card. If a sound did play then Save and Exit.

Problem : Sound plays distorted
Answer : If sound plays distorted there are two possible reasons
          1) Your sound card is not setup correctly
          2) Your Pc has less that 600k of conventional memory free.

[Windows 95/98]

Most Sound Cards installed under Windows 95/98 are 100% Sound Blaster
compatible but if your sound card is installed on your motherboard as oppose
to a PCI slot then chances are you wont know your settings. To find out your
sound cards settings try one of the following,

Method 1) You can try the same method as MS-DOS. This would mean selecting the
          most common settings for a Sound Blaster.

          Select Card: Sound Blaster
          Port       : 0x200
          IRQ        : 5
          DMA1       : 1
          DMA2       : 5

          Run the setup program by typing "setup.exe" and select the options
          so that they match up with the options above. Once this is done
          click on the TEST button if no sound plays try changing the name of
          your card. If a sound did play then Save and Exit.

Method 2) This method requires a pen, pad and some technical know how.

Step 1) On the Windows Desktop Close all programs that are currently running.
Step 2) Click on the Start button.
Step 3) Goto and click on the Settings/Control Panel tab.
Step 4) Once the Control Panel Window is open Click on the System Icon.
Step 5) On the System Properties Box click on the Device Manager tab.
Step 6) Go down the list and double click on the Sound video and game
         controllers
Step 7) Now highlight your Sound Card.
Step 8) Once highlighted click on the Properties button.
Step 9) Now your Sound Cards Properties box should pop up
Step 10) Once popped up click on the Resources tab
Step 11) This page will give you all the information you need so get
         out your pad and write down your Sound Cards make(the following
         sample will be based on my Sound Card)

         Example:
         ~~~~~~~~
         Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 or AWE-32
Step 12) Now write down everything in the Resource Settings List
         Example:
         ~~~~~~~~
         Input/Output Range   : 0220 - 022F
         Input/Output Range   : 0330 - 0331
         Input/Output Range   : 0338 - 038B
         Interrupt Request    : 5
         Direct Memory Access : 1
         Direct Memory Access : 5

Step 13) Converting all that mumbo-jumbo:

         Example:
         ~~~~~~~~
         Port = Input/Output Range   : 0220 - 022F
         IRQ  = Interrupt Request    : 5
         DMA1 = Direct Memory Access : 1
         DMA2 = Direct Memory Access : 5
Step 14) Now you have the correct information for the sound setup.
         Close all the windows and run "setup.exe"
Step 15) Select the following options,
         Example:
         ~~~~~~~~
         Select Card: Sound Blaster
         Port       : 0x200
         IRQ        : 5
         DMA1       : 1
         DMA2       : 5

Step 16) Test the sound then Save and Exit and run Super Roco Bros Part 2!

[Windows 2000/Windows ME]

Please refer to section (5) Trouble shooting for more information regarding
running sound setup under Windows 2000 or Windows ME.
