Sean Patrick Astin (Santa Monica, 25 febbraio 1971) è un attore e regista statunitense, noto in Italia particolarmente per aver interpretato il ruolo di Sam nella trilogia del Signore degli Anelli (tratta dall'omonima saga letteraria di John Ronald Reuel Tolkien.
Figlio d’arte (il padre è il celebre John Astin, interprete del ruolo di Gomez nella Famiglia Addams; la madre è l'attrice Patty Duke), ha debuttato giovanissimo, dapprima in televisione e poi al cinema. Qui il suo primo ruolo è stato quello di Mikey nel cult I Goonies (1985), scritto da Spielberg e Columbus e diretto da Richard Donner.
La sua produzione registica include principalmente serie televisive e cortometraggi. Il suo lavoro Kangaroo Court ha ricevuto una nomination all'Oscar 1995 in quest’ultima categoria.
